In 4 days, I am going to Phoenix, AZ to see my family!  I will see my Dad’s whole side of the family and let me tell you, its been a while.  I think this will be the first time in…easily 10 years that “the Triplets” will all be together in AZ and we cannot wait to surprise my 101 year old Grandma!  (She has NO idea we are coming.)

So anyway, to get even more excited for my trip, here are some totally cool Southwestern inspired interiors.

What I really love about this decor is that it reflects the natural environment and heritage of the area.  “Flat roofs, open floor plans and extensive courtyards and gardens are hallmarks of a Southwestern home” (San Francisco Chronicle).

Again, Ethan Allen has furnished the Dream Home House, this gorgeous house is in Charleston, SC.

What do you think about the kitchen ceiling paint color?  With ceilings this high, I think it totally rocks!

I just love the fun and vibrant color scheme that is pulled throughout the whole entire house!  I have a feeling that painted furniture and this aqua blue and lime green scheme will make a comeback this year (yes, I do still know that the Pantone color of the year is emerald green).

I miss those summer trips to Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod where we played in the sand and in the water, and went shopping in the cute little boutique shops that line the streets.  Now that the warm weather (hot if you are in DC) is here to stay, I crave the beach!

So here is a little collection of sumemr accessories that bring me back to those summer holidays.

One of the things I have been looking forward to all year are my summer evenings where I can just lounge outside with friends, family, and my dogs, sip a glass of wine, and enjoy the warm breeze.  Here are a couple great tips to creating that perfect outdoor retreat where everyone can gather and just… relax.

1. Creating a focal point (fire helps)

Build your conversation area around something interesting by creating a focal point.  By placing seating around a fire pit or coffee table, a cozy conversation area is created and face-to-face conversation is easy.

2. Comfort is Important

Pillows and cushions are so important to ensure your summer evening gatherings will last through the night.  This is also a great way to start introducing more color into the outdoor space.  Remember that not all fabrics are suitable for outdoors, Sunbrella makes gorgeous fabrics that can be left outside all year round and still look amazing.  They are mold, mildew, and fade resistant, and are being introduced in some stunning prints and colors.

3. Layer Color

When it comes to bring color into your space, consider the palette of the flowers and greenery that is already around you and pull from those.  No need to reinvent the wheel, if there is already some naturally-brought-in-color, use it!

4. Don’t Forget Lighting!

Keeping your outdoor space illuminated once dusk has hit is a sure way to keep your space feeling warm and inviting.  By using strung globe lights, a fire pit, or even the good ‘ol tiki torch, candle light always enhances the outdoors.
