Guilford Green (HC-116) according to Benjamin Moore

Ben Moore actually defined 4 “color families” for 2015 and selected Guilford Green as the key color that fits into each “family”.

{“Through our research and travel across the globe, four color families emerged suggesting bolder color and confident choices. Color layering is so easy, see how you won’t be able to live without it. Discover the berry, green, blush and blue paint color collections.”}

Loving this color and want it to work in your home?  Try it out with colors such as Old Claret (2083-30) or Universal Black (2118-10) by Benjamin Moore.

{“Coral Reef embodies a cheerful approach to design that we’re seeing for the coming year. Its unexpected versatility brings life to a range of design aesthetics, whether traditional, vintage, cottage or contemporary,””
said Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing.}

Wondering how to infuse Coral Reef into you home?  It pairs well with colors like Sherwin William’s Watery (SW6478) and Sedated Gray (SW6169).

Just like Benjamin Moore, Behr also defined 4 color palettes on trend for 2015.  Their 4 palettes are:

1. “Deep Dreams” consists of richly saturated saturated jewel tones.

2. “Frosted Pastels” uses airy and feminine colors with cool and “zesty” accents

3. “Social Brights” blends contemporary bold colors with bright or darker neutrals

4. “Nuanced Neutrals” takes the trendy 2014 “weathered look” and updates it using cozy and dusty colors, outside of the “sandy” tones from last year.

And of course, Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year is Marsala (18-1438)

{“Add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich and welcoming hue in accent pieces, accessories and paint. Marsala’s plush characteristics are enhanced when the color is applied to textured surfaces, making it an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered living room furniture”}

Wondering how to add Marsala into your home?  Bring it in through accents such as pillows, florals, or paint!

Who was Dorothy Draper??  Well, in 1923, she was the first person to actually establish an interior design company, thus making it a true profession!  How cool?

Source: dorothydraper.com

As a true “Interior Designer”, she made huge strides in the field and broke through what was considered safe and common at the time.  She was known to pair uncommon colors and print together, her motto? “If it looks right, it is right”.  (dorothydraper.com)

I love her use of bold contrast in color and prints!

Just a few of her largest and most well know project include the restaurant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, nicknamed “The Dorotheum”, the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia, and the Camellia House, Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Benjamin Moore even came up with a Dorothy Draper color palette and several famous designers such as Jonathan Adler and Kelly Wearstler have done design projects in ode to her as well.

I wonder, what would the design world be like without Dorothy Draper?  Would we be living in boring little tone-on-tone boxes?

One of the pieces to the room puzzle that usually gets very little attention is the ceiling!  Okay, so we are very particular about the type of lighting that goes up there, but what about the actual finish, treatment, or texture of it?  Having a color or pattern on the ceiling can also give the illusion of elongating the walls and making the room feel larger by drawing the eye upwards. There are so many unexpected ways to treat your ceiling so it isn’t just boring white.
